You might be interested in some graduate work I did a few months back. This particular piece is about using Opera Turbo as a proxy which will optimise imagery et al before it hits your ISP. The only problem is that they don&#039;t spread out the servers in the correct geographical location for everyone!

I proposed an alternative which is loading a proxy (which is in a good geographical location for you - maybe a VPS web server if you have one) and using the RabbIT open source proxy software which will compress imagery on the fly. An interesting technical argument anyway I think.
